Season
one of a hop vine transplant from a plant that I had found one night in
the graveyard walking home from my brothers place.
(Graveyard
Hopvine pic to come)
Here are some pictures from
my hop vine that I transplanted in the spring:

It's
the leaves that are in the shape of maple leaves, yep, those are them.
Notice the paleness of the leaves, methinks it's from a lack of
nitrogen in the soil, but I am afraid to fertilize, in the case that I
may kill them, perhaps I should take that risk come spring.

Imagine
my dismay to see this! When I went to take a picture, I followed the
vine on down the line, I discovered the problem, see the pic below.

How
does a woody stem like this just break off? Perhaps it was the strong
winds last week that weakened it, or perhaps an animal?
Oh
well, when it comes to gardening, disappointment comes hand in hand
with the joys it gives you.
Lucky for me, I had two hops vines
from the same transplant, I am hoping that in season one, the roots
have established themselves, and will grow hop vines much better and
stronger than before, like the six million dollar man!

(the
root structure is still there and will sprout up next spring)
